Island is characterized by mild Mediterranean climate. Summers are not too hot, winters are mild. Autumn is suitable for swimming and sunbathing, and spring is the most beautiful time for walking and sightseeing. Been in touch with nature, witnessing all the wonders which surround you while on this island, means returning to the beginning of time. 

From the beginning of civilization, man has recognized Korcula as a suitable place for living.
The Illyrians controlled the Adriatic from the peaks of the Korcula mountains. The first colony on the Adriatic was founded by the ancient Greeks 6 centuries before Christ. The Romans were also residents of the island. The Croats crossed the Peljesac canal and quickly assimilated into the communities which existed here.

One of the oldest statutes of the Slavic people was written in Korcula in 1214.  And today Korcula is the most populated Adriatic island.  Her beauty is enriched by the labours of its inhabitants.  Many traditions ensure that its rich history will never be forgotten.

Vegetation and agriculture
Korcula is covered by indigenous, aromatic herbs and vegetation. The ancient Greeks brought the culture of vines and olives to the island. This is still the main agricultural occupation on the island. The art of building stone walls and houses with flat stone roofs was taught by the Illyrians.
The endless battle to clear rocks and stones to find a little area of arable soil is especially visible on the western side of the island.
