Situated in the middle of the island is the village, Cara.
It is built amphi-theatre style on the southern slope of the hills. Beneath the hills there is a large, fertile area well known for its vineyards producing the well-known wine Posip.
In the parish church of St Petar, built in the 15th century, above the main altar, we find the painting "Christ appears to the Apostles" by the famous Venetian renaisance painter Jacop Bassana. In the fields we find thr 14th century chapel "Our Lady of Carskoga Poja".
Every year on the feast day of St Jakov (25th July), there is a procession through the fields with a the wooden statue of Our Lady, made in Nothingham, England in the 15th century. There are also legends that Our Lady appeared in Cara.
This picturesque village with many old stone turrets and houses is inhabited mostly by older population.
