This is one of the oldest inhabited bays in Vela Luka. 

People settled here because of the proximity of the town (9km) and to be close to their olive groves and vineyards. Near by there is the ancient village of Potirna.  There even was a primary school here, now it is an abandoned village, but still very interesting to view. Poplat is a very sheltered bay. Most of the houses have been renovated and adapted to modern life, but they still have that rustic atmosphere to remind us of the life of our ancestors. The houses are close to each other and the neighbours are all friendly.

Good neighbourliness, feelings of belonging to a community and familiarity are values which are rapidly been lost in today’s busy world, but in Poplat we can re-live these feelings. 

People here love to celebrate together, and this they do especially in mid-July when they celebrate their Saints day – Our Lady of the Rock.  Your hosts celebrate by attending mass, singing and partying all day!!
